MAY 2012
Apologies for the disappearance of this website for a few days recently.
Whilst it was down I launched a new, simpler website at www.anewdaymag.co.uk where you can pay by Paypal. If you don't have a Paypal account it only takes a few seconds to set one up and it's a much easier way to pay.
A New Day magazines, back issues and binders are clearly displayed on the site and soon CDs, Jethro Tull posters and some Jethro Tull concert/festival programmes will be available also. I hope you like the new site!
You will see that some prices have risen - entirely due to horrendous increases in postage introduced this month. Sorry about that but I simply could not keep the mag going without passing on the increased costs - I hope you can stick with us to help the mag survive...

Some 4 years after the initial idea, our new book "Jethro Tull - THE A NEW DAY TAPES" will be going into production in May. We will email you with details of how to buy the book (no obligation!) shortly afterwards.

APRIL 2012
#103 of A NEW DAY magazine is out now, featuring the first part of our recent exclusive and lengthy interview with Ian Anderson, plus reviews of TAAB2, Aqualung box set and much more.
Sadly, due to savage increases in postal prices about to come into effect, the cost of subscriptions has had to rise. I realise it is now prohibitively expensive for readers in the USA, Oz etc but the vast majority of the cost is simply for postage (almost £3 per issue!). I hope you will stick with us if you can as we need to keep a reasonable print run just to pay for production, but if you just can't afford it you can now get a download for Kindle via Amazon.

GOODBYE, BIG AL HODGE
Last month I received the very sad news that Al Hodge, singer and guitarist with The Mechanics, had passed away after a two year battle with cancer.
I had been a fan since 1980, but it was only a chance remark by Andy Giddings in 1991 that gave me the chance to actually see him perform live, and that first Mechanics gig literally changed my life. The band were unbelievably good live, and Big Al was an absolute master of a frontman. Not in fact physically big, but he earned his Big Al moniker through his stage presence, a giant of a man with a guitar in his hands. He was the proverbial “larger than life” character, always smiling and laughing both on and off stage.
Over the years I have dragged many a reluctant soul up and down the country to see a band that I thought they would like, with varying degrees of success, but nobody ever came away from a Mechanics gig without realising they had witnessed something very, very special.
Big Al should have, would have been a huge star had he not been so devoted to his beloved Cornwall. He toured the world with Leo Sayer in the early years of The Mechanics, but afterwards was always reluctant to venture too far from his Kingdom of Kernow. And there he was the King. BBC Radio Cornwall broadcast a 3 hour tribute to him the day after he died. It’s a shame the rest of the country, and the world, never got to share in the greatness of the man, but I do know that he was always happy with his lot. He enjoyed life to the full, and he enriched the lives of all who were lucky enough to have known him. I’m proud to say I knew him as a friend, and the many gigs I saw in so many beautiful Cornish venues were some of the greatest days and nights of my life.
I will miss him a lot.
Thanks for the memories Al. DR
