On the 15th August 1998, Solstice, one of the finest bands to hail from the progressive rock revival of the 80's and 90's, played to an enthralled audience of over 10,000 at Fairport Convention's wonderful Cropredy Festival. Ironically it proved to be their final public performance, so how fortuitous then that the forward thinking wise old chaps at A New Day had forked out an outrageously large amount of money to capture it both on video and 24 track digital audio! Well, yes and no. The concert was beset throughout by sound problems and whilst the recording was an excellent reproduction of the live event, it was deemed to be of insufficient quality to warrant a release. Undeterred, Andy Glass hauled his band into the studio the very next day to play the whole thing again, just as it was on the day - still very much 'live' but this time with complete control over recording quality. So here it is; a superb reminder of the live prowess of the magnificent Solstice. Gone, but not forgotten. And who knows, we may not have seen the last of them after all. Andy Glass is determined one day to marry the video footage to a decent soundtrack, and fans will hold onto the hope that he may resurrect once again the band that promised so much yet faded before achieving the success it so richly deserved.
