And whether it's in the broad canvas of Pilgrim (spiritually expansive, never soppy); Kisses In The Dark, which drifts like Joni Mitchell's Night Ride Home; the genuinely epic title track, or The Payback, where ball-breaking revenge wears elegant shoes, the results are fluent and impressive. The traditional material (including Sir Hugh Of Lincoln and My Bonny Light Horseman) gets a good seeing to as well, thanks to sparkling arrangements and the daring use of Martin Barre's caterwauling guitar.
