(AND CD15) £10 Movers & Shakers is a critically acclaimed masterpiece from one of the UK's finest singer songwriters, backed by a band of legendary names such as Martin Barre, Chris Conway, Gerry Conway, Liam Genochey, Ric Sanders, Fred T Baker and many more. *** REVIEWS *** Q REVIEW Vikki Clayton Movers & Shakers (**** 4 STAR RATING) Reviewed: July 1997 Release Date: 21-Apr-1997 Increasingly typecast in recent years due to her association with Fairport Convention and an uncanny ability to deliver top Sandy Denny impersonations, Vikki Clayton here forsakes mimickry with great enthusiasm. And whether it's in the broad canvas of Pilgrim (spiritually expansive, never soppy); Kisses In The Dark, which drifts like Joni Mitchell's Night Ride Home; the genuinely epic title track, or The Payback, where ball-breaking revenge wears elegant shoes, the results are fluent and impressive. The traditional material (including Sir Hugh Of Lincoln and My Bonny Light Horseman) gets a good seeing to as well, thanks to sparkling arrangements and the daring use of Martin Barre's caterwauling guitar. Support elsewhere comes from Rob Foster, Gerry Conway, Ric Sanders, John Kirkpatrick, and the sly fretless basses of Fred Baker and Ian Leese. In shaking off Sandy, Clayton clearly delights in re-discovering herself. Reviewed by Rob Beattie Previous 1 of 4 Next back to band list Price: £10 # 262(CD15) |
