Welcome to MVT School
The Motor Vehicle Training School is located in a pleasant and interesting site in central Surrey, close to junction 11 M25.
We are an Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) dedicated centre. We offer IMI courses to students in their last years at school to prepare them for a job in the Motor Industry.
Our learners are at the centre of everything we do; we help them to be a model of good practice for developing new skills, knowledge and understanding in Motor Vehicle Engineering subjects.
Its not just about spanners
There are an unbelievable variety of jobs to suit everyone in the Motor Industry. Too many people think the Motor industry is a job for mechanics. Yes there are many mechanics, male and female, working and earning good money but there are many mechanical-related jobs where you would not be expected to get dirty by doing mechanical work.
So where do women start in this industry? A working knowledge of how a vehicle is put together and works is a good start. Doing an IMI level 1 course whilst still at school is very forward thinking and will put you ahead of the crowd when you come to apply for a job. The level 1 course is relatively easy, giving you a good grounding in how a motor vehicle is built and works. This basic knowledge will put you on a level playing field with men in the industry. The job opportunities this basic knowledge opens up is just staggering.
Here is a list of just a few career ideas on offer with a little motor vehicle training.
Front of house in a busy garage; finding a someone to run the reception who also has good mechanical knowledge is almost imposible.
Showroom sales staff; knowing about the vehicle when you are trying to sell it to a customer gives the customer trust in you and would often convert a prospect onto a sale.
Garage administration; working across departments it would be essential to have vehicle knowledge to communicate effectively.
Parts department; once again, talking about car parts to buyers is so much easier if you know what the part does and would allow you to recomend alternatives to close the sale.
Vehicle delivery; knowing how a vehicle works gives you empathy with how it is running and the garage would have confidence in you moving new cars across the country.
Motor sport; women are usually in the glamour side of this industry but more and more females are taking up the sport and branching into many other areas of it.
In the end we all rely on our cars to get from A to B so even if you do not go into the motor trade you will save yourself money in looking after your own car.
What we can offer
As a dynamic business we are constantly reviewing our portfolio of courses. Our plans include running courses for adults, helping them back into work.
Specialist ladies-only couses for a working knowledge of their own cars.
Motorcycle maintenance courses for 14 to 16 year olds.
Working with special needs students.
We have many ideas under development and will keep this area up to date with our latest courses.
Not just cars!
We offer courses for those interested in motorcycles from a prevocational level to an IMI level 1.
This will give the student a good standing if they wish to follow a career path in motorcycle maintenance. It is also useful having motorcycle maintenance knowledge in other motor vehicle disciplines.
This knowledge was very useful to one of our tutors who was an RAC roadside callout operative, meaning he could deal with both cars and motorbikes.
Once again, these courses are also useful if you own a motorbike.
Everybody Wins

The school is awarded 125 performance points per student that achieves. These points go towards the school's yearly grading on a national level against other schools.
On completion of an IMI level 2 course the student will be awarded an IMI industry recognised certificate. They will also get 5 grade B GCSE equivalents on completion.
The school will be awarded an amazing 275 performance points per student. With a class of ten achieving this will amount to 2750 points towards their national grading.
