The vehicle fitting courses are the basic courses
we run they are ideal for school children to get into the motor industry by
gaining industry recognised certification while still at school. This would put
them ahead of the game in the current difficult job market.
There is a shortage of motor vehicle engineers at the moment so it should not be too
difficult to get employment in the industry in our current recession.
Level 1 Award in Vehicle Fitting Operations (Vehicle Fitting)

This is a level 1 pre-apprenticeship qualification that covers
the technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry, including basic
processes and principles and foundation skills.
It provides essential
knowledge for auto-electricians working on vehicles in all types of garages,
dealerships and maintenance depots.
It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of light
vehicles in the following:
Basic Construction and Layouts
Basic Front Wheel Alignment
Basic Testing of Vehicle Charging Systems
Basic Removal and Replacement of:
Clutches
Exhaust Systems
Batteries
Suspension Dampers
Braking System Components
Standard Light Vehicle Tyres
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other
skills associated with working in a garage.
The student’s knowledge is
assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop
environment, IMI Awards set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing and assessments
set by the MVT School.
Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Fitting (Vehicle Fitting)

This is a level 2 qualification that includes the full range of routine
vehicle fitting procedures. It provides essential knowledge for vehicle
fitters working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages,
dealerships and fast fit businesses.
It is a learning programme which provides students with the opportunity to study both the theory and practical aspects
of some of the following:
Inspecting, repairing and replacing: high performance light vehicle tyres and motorcycle tyres.
Carrying out light vehicle front wheel alignment.
Inspecting and replacing light vehicle:
clutches
exhaust components
suspension dampers
vehicle batteries
braking systems
Assessing and securing a roadside situation
Identifying and agreeing customer vehicle needs.
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills
associated with working in a garage.

Level 1 Award in Automotive Pre-vocational Learning Light Vehicle

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide an automotive
pathway of specialist learning for the Foundation Diploma in Engineering. It
has been approved by the Engineering Diploma Development Partnership and the
Sector Skills Council, Automotive Skills.
The Award can also be used as standalone qualification.
It offers learners the opportunity to broaden their horizons and explore automotive as career a pathway.
It is ideal for both learners who enjoy a practical environment and those who are interested in
pursuing a technical career within the sector. It is a learning programme
which involves learners studying both the theory and practical aspects of the
following:

Interpreting vehicle technical information
Basic vehicle preparation and Vehicle refinishing materials, tools and equipment
Vehicle paint application and minor defect rectification
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other
skills associated with working in a garage.
The student’s knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop
environment, IMI Awards set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing, and by assessments set by the MVT School.
Adult Courses
There are a number of ideas in the pipeline for future courses to the
adult market. We are currently looking at some summer course options with an
all female classes focusing on the motor vehicle basics and vehicle breakdown.
Also some get me back to work options open to anyone who wishes to gain work
in the motor industry.

Information
We offer industry-related courses which are of a much higher level than the usual school vocational level courses offered.
This means, for instance, that our level 1 course is much closer to a
school vocational level 2 course, as evidenced by the larger number of
school performance points it attracts and the equivalence in GCSEs
