GENERAL SCHOOL INFORMATION

We are an Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) dedicated centre and offer IMI courses to students in their last years at school to prepare them for a job in the Motor Industry. The student would take a place in the year 9 options period and do a two year industry recognised course while still at school through Years 10 and 11. This would be run one day a week throughout these two years.

We deliver IMI level 1 Motor Vehicle Fitting Operations, this gives the student 3 Grade B GCSE equivalents and the school 125 performance points per student. We are also offering a pre-vocational course in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and a Motor Cycle course, both of which are delivered under the IMI awarding body guidelines. For the really keen students we can offer level 2 Motor Vehicle Fitting Operations but this requires a good adult learner attitude as it is more involved both academically and practically. If this level 2 is completed successfully the student will gain an Industry recognized certificate, 5 Grade B GCSE equivalents and 275 performance points.

All students can carry on up the levels at a college after they leave school. Some of our past students have undertaken a Motor Sport Course level 2 at Brooklands College. Some have found apprenticeships in garages and carried on their training through work. Doing a course with the Motor Vehicle Training School will give them a good start in an engineering career. The armed forces, for example, are offering an incentive of a non returnable £1000 to the student on being interested when on level 1 and a further £1000 on signing up with them to undertake an engineering career in the forces.

The courses are basically performance based allowing easy delivery to young learners as they can re-do a task until it is completed properly, then move on. Our tutors have been running these courses for a number of years and have a good pass rate percentage of those who complete the course. So far this has been 100% of those offered for External Verification to the IMI.
